DISCUSS THIS ARTICLE

Commercials are great because they are so visual and short.  They are especially useful for teaching adjectives and commands.

Commercial Activities
    Daily Commercials
    1. Show several different TV commercials every day.
    2. Pick out key phrases from each commercial and write them on a paper (that contains a picture of a Chile pepper.)  Create handout with a Chile pepper.
    3. Students match the product being advertised with the correct phrase or sentence.  It could be spoken words by characters or lyrics from a song played in the commercial.
    Example:

Me encanta.  Students write down McDonalds.
    Identify Parts of the Commercial
    1. Students watch a commercial in Spanish.
    2. Meanwhile, they identify the:
      • Benefits of the product
      • Key words and images
      • Product being advertised
      • Target audience
    Partner Publicity Campaign
    1. Students watch commercials on TV, listen to radio announcements, and read printed advertisements from newspapers and magazines.
    2. Assign each student a partner.
    3. Afterwards, students choose a product to sell.  It can be real or invented.
    4. Students design a logo and a slogan for their product.
    5. Afterwards, they create three advertisements for their product:
      • Print advertisement
      • Radio announcement
      • TV commercial
    6. Students present their advertisements to the class.

Resources
Television

You can find many commercials in Spanish on Spanish language TV stations such as Univision, Galavision, Telemundo, and any other Spanish TV channels from your cable or satellite provider.

Also check out the resources in TV Shows for commercials.

Websites

YouTube - You can find many video clips on YouTube.  You can even download videos and save them to a flash drive, a CD, on an iPod/MP3 player, or save them to your computer.

If you would like to download videos from YouTube or another video website (since your school may block YouTube) try these websites:

Vixy.net - I normally use Vixy because you can easily download videos in a variety of formats by cutting and pasting the video url.  In addition, they have a desktop Converter that you can download so you don't have to log onto their website each time you want to download the video.  The site normally works but a couple of times I have visited and it was down.  In any case, this is a great place to start!

YouTube Catcher - Here you can easily download YouTube Videos by copying and pasting the video url.

Downloading YouTube Videos - This is a must-read article from FLTEACH on how to download YouTube videos.
